Why I Started Able to Serve—and Why I’m Asking for Your Help Today
When I founded Able to Serve, it wasn’t because I had all the answers. It was because I had a question that wouldn’t go away: What happens when a young person with a disability ages out of school and is left with nowhere to belong?
Too often, families told me the same heartbreaking story—after high school, their adult son/daughter was at home with few opportunities to continue learning, growing, or connecting with others. These were individuals with talents, purpose, and so much to offer. But society had no place for them to go, so we created one. Able to Serve was born out of that gap—a day program where adults with disabilities can learn, grow, lead, and serve others in their community. We don’t just offer care; we offer purpose.
Over the years, I’ve watched participants gain confidence, take leadership roles, serve meals to others in need, and show the world what they’re capable of. Parents tell us their sons and daughters come home excited, empowered, and fulfilled. That’s what Able to Serve is all about.
May 19th-23rd is Founders Day Week, and I’m setting a personal goal to raise $1,000. That amount helps cover program supplies, transportation, and daily activities that make it possible for our participants to thrive.
Will you help me continue what we started? Whether you give $10 or $100, every dollar helps us make sure no one is left sitting at home feeling forgotten. You’re not just donating—you’re opening doors and changing lives.
Thank you for believing in the mission that started it all.
